About Maui
Maui real estate is as diverse as the seven unique sections found on this beautiful Pacific Island - 'The Magic Isle'. Each of the seven regions differs in geography, climate, the people that live there and the people that visit. That is what gives real estate in each region a definite and unique personality. The common theme that is found in all seven regions is Maui's natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. The seven areas are Central Maui, Hanna, Lahaina, North Shore, South Shore, Upcountry and West Maui.
Central Maui real estate is often sought after because of its location. It is the heart of Maui. The two major towns are Wailuku and Kahului. These towns are the commercial, industrial and civic center of Maui. County and state government offices are located in Wailuku. There is also a hospital and an old downtown area full of local charm. Real estate in the downtown area is very desirable due to the short commute to the business area. Maui's main port and airport are located in Kahului. There are excellent shopping malls as well as the Maui Cultural Arts Center. Properties in this area of Maui often have a spectacular view of the North Shore and Haleakala.
Residential real estate in the area of Lahaina ranges from cute little plantation style cottages to multi million dollar estates on the beach. Lahaina is known as "the jewel in the crown of Maui". It is the second most visited spot in Maui, only surpassed by the beaches.
Real estate in the Hanna / East Maui region is lush and tropical. Hanna, a tropical paradise isolated from the rest of the island, is Maui's last undeveloped area. Lush rainforests, beautiful vivid rainbows, dozens of cascading waterfalls, black sand beaches and the steep east side of Haleakala combined with the slow pace make real estate in this area very popular.
Maui's North Shore is one of Hawaii's hottest real estate areas because of its location. Maui's North Shore has some of the best big wave surfing to be found anywhere. The town of Haiku is the home "Jaws" which is the most spectacular big wave spot in the world.
Aside from the draw of the ocean, the North Shore offers towns that are full of Hawaiian charm. Some of the towns in this area are Spreckelsville, Paia, and Kuau. The area has been home to many artists and free spirits for over thirty years. Cooling trade winds, rolling pineapple and sugar cane fields and tremendous natural beauty make Maui real estate in this area very desirable.
The South Shore of Maui, also called the Gold Coast, offers a diverse range of real estate offerings. Kihei, located in the shadow of Haleakala, is one of the sunniest places in Maui. Many beautiful beaches line the coast. Real estate in Kihei ranges from starter homes to multi million dollar beachfront estates. Because of the vast variety of homes, the sunny climate and the abundance of activities, Kihei is very popular both with local residents and second home owners. The South Shore area of Wailea / Makena is one that brings luxury to mind. Maui real estate in this area offers a spectacular resort life style with challenging golf courses, fine dining, first class shopping and beautiful beaches. Located on the southwest side of Haleakala Volcano, this area includes some of the most beautiful condominiums and homes on the island.
Maui's Upcountry is situated on the flanks of Haleakala at elevations ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 feet. Upcountry towns include Makawao, Olinda, Pukalani and Kula which are blessed with beautiful weather and spectacular views. Both the north and south shores of Maui can be seen from here.
West Maui real estate offers resort living at its best. The area has beautiful forests on the west Maui Mountains, emerald green golf courses, white sandy beaches, rolling pineapple fields and spectacular bays in varying shades of blue. The bays and beaches of Kaanapali are some of the prettiest on Maui. They are popular for swimming, snorkeling and other water activities. There are two golf courses. Property in Kaanapali is very much in demand. Other towns in this region include Kapalua, Napili, Kahana, and Honokawai.
