Molokai Homes On a Secluded Rural Island

Molokai homes are located throughout this sparsely populated tropical Pacific Island. Many are located in or near the tiny towns that dot the island, while others are situated on the spectacular mountain bluffs. Molokai homes range from sun-faded clapboard houses to luxury estates. The asking price for Molokai homes range from $265,000 to $3,000,000.

The southern plains are the area of the island where most of the residents live. Some of the Molokai homes here are faded from the sun. This little town reminds many people of an old western town. A one bedroom one bath plantation style house located within the town is listed for $310,000. There is 974 square feet of living space. The property is 8,387 square feet and is fenced.

In hamlets such as Kualapuu, Molokai homes are often old farmhouses. Kualapuu is located in the central area of Molokai. The Molokai Museum and Cultural Center is located in Kualapuu.

In central Molokai is the Kawela Plantation which consists of 210 home sites. These Molokai homes are set on at least 2 acres and are fee simple tenure. There is a total of 5,500 acres in the Kawela Plantation. Besides the land needed for the house sites there is preservation of many acres of various terrain. This land preservation includes ocean front, grasslands, and pine and eucalyptus forests. There are spectacular ocean views from Molokai homes built on these lots. The selling price of the lots varies from $285,000 to $330,000.

Located on the Molokai's West Coast is the Papohaku Ranch Lands. Molokai homes in this area will be estate homes. The parcels are zoned as agricultural land and have between 5 to 24 acres. Each parcel has a magnificent ocean view as well as breathtaking sunsets. These parcels list from $550,000 to $1,200,000. Some Molokai homes in the Papohaku Ranch lands have already been built. One is listed for $3,000,000 and is located on 5.63 acres. It is a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with 1,830 square feet of living space.

Beachfront Molokai homes are at a premium because of the location of the land. An example of this is a tiny one bedroom 1 bath cottage located on Kawela Beach. The cottage is set on 1.4 acres. The asking price is $1,195,000.

The people of Molokai aren't all that happy with the development of their land. They are trying to stop the building of 1,500 Molokai homes on the West End. If there is not a prohibition of further subdivision, based on Maui County zoning rules the Kaluakoi area could be developed with these Molokai homes. Owners of Molokai homes are starting to exercise their provision and subdivide their lots. One Molokai homeowner already divided his single beach front lot into two parcels. He is now trying to sell one of the lots for a $1,360,000 profit.

Molokai homes are highly desired. The draw of a deserted tropical island home plays on the minds of many people.
