![]() Molokai Land Is Still Available on This Unique IslandMolokai land measures only 260.9 square miles. This tiny island is approximately 38 miles long and 10 miles wide and has 88 miles of beautiful unspoiled coastline. It is the fifth largest of the major Hawaiian Islands. Molokai land was formed from two distinct volcanoes. Theses volcanoes are the East Molokai and the much smaller West Molokai Volcano. Three channels separate Molokai, known as The Friendly Island, from the rest of the Hawaiian Island chain. Molokai is located so close to Maui and Lanai that a clear view of those islands can be seen from along the Molokai shore. The lights from the city of Honolulu, located on the island of Oahu, can be seen from Molokai at night.
There are two main geographical areas of Molokai land. The low western half does not have very much ground cover due to poor land management practices and the grazing of goats. It is a very dry area. The coastal dunes of Moomomi Beach are one of the few natural areas that are almost intact. The coastal dune area is now a Nature Conservancy Preserve. The Molokai land on the eastern half of the island is covered with lush tropical rainforests. Over 300 inches of rain falls in this area each year. This half of the island is a high plateau that rises 4900 feet on Kamakou peak. The Nature Conservancy's Kamakou and Pelekunu Valley Preserves protect most of the summit area. The vegetation below 4,000 feet changes to an exotic flora. Along the southern shore of Molokai is the longest fringing reef anywhere in the United States.
Within the rain forest of Kamakou Preserve are more than 250 species of Hawaiian plants - at least 219 of which can be found nowhere else in the world. This lush rain forest is also home to countless native insects, supporting a unique array of birds. Pelekunu Preserve is located along Molokai's extremely rugged north coast, and features the tallest sea cliffs in the world. On this peaceful, enchanted little island of Molokai, land is highly desired by people who want to get away from it all - if only for a little while. This is a good time for anyone wanting to invest in a parcel of Molokai land. The real estate market trend is down slightly from last year for Molokai land. With the exception of Niihau, a small private island near Kauai, Molokai is the only Hawaiian Island where Hawaiians are in the majority. It is estimated that of the island's 7,000 plus population, 2,500 of them are more than 50% native Hawaiians.
